Leadership in Collaborative Research Workshop
The final Education & Training Committee workshop for 2016 will be on Leadership in Collaborative Research. The workshop will be held in Adelaide on the day before the Annual Research Workshop, 10am - 4pm Tuesday 6 December.
The all-day workshop is for CBNS postdoctoral researchers and PhD students who are looking to increase their leadership skills, particular within collaborative research activities. It has been developed by Dr Zach Houston (Education Committee member at UQ) with Hugh Kearns from ThinkWell.
The workshop will cover:
- effective communication
- teams, roles and expectations,
- when to collaborative and when not to
- writing and working in teams
- time - finding it and knowing when to wait
The program for the day is:
|10.00-10.30||Introductions & workshop overview|
|10.30-11.00||Communication styles - dealing with different styles|
|11.15-12.30||Collaboration - what it is and how to do it|
|1.30-2.30||Leadership, managing up, and stepping up|
|2.30-3.30||Senior CBNS academics - perspectives on leadership and collaboration|
For those workshop participants who are involved in the recently developed CBNS Signature Projects, these projects will be an ideal opportunity to put the skills developed during the workshop to use. Three Signature Project leaders will be at the workshop in the afternoon to speak about how researchers at all levels of the projects can increase their research leadership activities.
The workshop will be run by Hugh Kearns from ThinkWell, an internationally recognised speaker who works with researchers and universities.
Chief Investigators have already nominated high potential leaders from their groups but a few places remain. If you are interested in attending the workshop please contact CBNS Manager, Gaby Bright.
