Rob is a group leader in the Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine Division of the Institute for Molecular Biosciences and Deputy Director of the Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis.

Rob is studying the function of caveolae; small ‘pockets’ on the plasma membrane that form specialised domains of the cell surface with a distinct structure and function. Defective caveolae in human patients are associated with cancer, lipodystrophies (lack of fat tissue), muscular dystrophy, and cardiovascular disease. He is also investigating the use of bacterial ‘caveolae’ in drug delivery and vaccine development.
