Seminar --- Professor Havazelet Bianco-Peled "Sticky Matters"

19 Jan 2017
Monash, Parkville Campus - Room TBC

Join, Professor Havazelet Bianco-Peled, Department of Chemical Engineering, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel who will visit Monash this Thursday. Professor Bianco-Peled's research interests are in biomaterials, mucoadhesion and drug delivery.

Time: 2 - 3.00pm

Room: TBC

The term bioadhesion refers to formation of interfacial bonds between two materials or surfaces, at least one of which is biological or biologically derived substance. An understanding of the fundamental mechanisms that govern bioadhesion is of great interest for researchers in various fields of science. The talk will describe my own experience in studying different aspects of bioadhesion. I will first describe research related to natural adhesive materials extracted from algae. A second area of research focuses on biomimetic adhesives. These man-made materials aim to mimic the remarkable adherence capabilities of natural adhesives. Finally, studies of bioadhesive drug delivery systems will be discussed.
